The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Yellow Springs will present "Chasing Old Man Brown" beginning 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21. Speaker Frank Doden will talk about the life and philosophy of John Brown as well as the historical context in which he lived. Doden has lived in Yellow Springs since 1998.

Officer in Ohio confronts boy with BB gun

In a state that has had instances of young black men being shot by police while handling a BB gun, one officer in Ohio was thankful he did not pull the trigger on an 11-year-old he spotted carrying a BB gun. According to the Columbus Division of Police, Officer Peter Casuccio was dispatched to a scene on Saturday to a gun run.

The Greene to host job fair featuring more than 25 retailers

One of the largest shopping centers in the Dayton region is hiring this fall. The Greene Town Center in Beavercreek will host a job fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 21, with nearly 30 retailers and restaurants seeking to fill positions.

Amateur radio simulated emergency test -

The Greene County Amateur Radio Emergency Service will be participating in a Simulated Emergency Test Saturday Oct. 6. GCARES members will be operating amateur radios from a variety of served agencies such as the County Emergency Management Agency , Greene County Public Health, Greene Memorial Hospital and fire stations in Beavercreek, Bellbrook, Fairborn and Sugarcreek Township. The SET is designed to assess the skills and preparedness of Amateur Radio Emergency Service volunteers and the readiness of their equipment and antennas during simulated emergency conditions.

Siens named new manager -

XENIA & BEAVERCREEK - Heidi Siens loves the family atmosphere at Greene Memorial Hospital and Soin Medical Center and experiences it each day as the new environmental services manager. Three months into her new job, she feels at home, "I love Soin and Greene, everyone has been so friendly and helpful," said Siens.

Scouts rehab high-fence gardens -

The high-fence gardens at Greene County Parks & Trails' Russ Nature Reserve recently benefited from the Eagle Scout project of Roan Zappanti of Troop 42 in Beavercreek. He and his team spread more than five tons of crushed limestone in the high-fence garden, turned the compost bins, prepared the soil and planted grass seed to prevent erosion, spread mulch, installed protective fence around shrubs and pruned brush on the Russ Loop Trail.

Trinity Bazaar featuring handmade gifts, treats -

Trinity Community of Beavercreek will host its annual bazaar 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 at 3218 Indian Ripple Road. Lunch - chicken and noodles, shredded chicken, macaroni and cheese, vegetable soup and more - will be served from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the second floor.

IHN hosting 3rd Empty Bowl -

Interfaith Hospitality Network/ Schneider House of Hope will host its 3rd Annual Empty Bowl 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12 at Faith Community United Methodist Church, 100 Country Club Drive. Guests will pick out a hand-crafted bowl and then have the choice of sampling twenty different soups, breads and desserts.
